Tabu Ley Rochereau, also known as Tabu Ley, was a Congolese musician and singer from the Democratic Republic of Congo. He was one of the most popular and influential musicians in Africa during the second half of the 20th century, and is considered the “King of Congolese Rumba.”
He began his career in the 1950s as a member of the group African Jazz, and later formed his own band, Afrisa International. He released over 50 albums throughout his career and was known for his powerful voice and ability to blend traditional Congolese rhythms with elements of jazz and funk. He died on November 30th 2013.
