FSA ID Faqs: All you Need to Know in 2023

FSA ID Faqs: All you Need to Know in 2023

The FSA ID is a username and password that allows users to submit and sign their FAFSA form, but only if they create one using their own personal information and for their own exclusive use.

The following are the FSA ID FAQs

How do I find my FSA ID and password?

If you verified your email address or mobile phone number during account creation, you can enter your email address or mobile phone number instead of your username. If you have an FSA ID but do not remember your password, select Forgot Password. Remember, your password is case-sensitive.

Does your FSA ID expire?

Your FSA ID username and password do not expire. You will be prompted to change your password only during account recovery or because of a security event.

Which parent should create an FSA ID?

Only students need to create an FSA ID. But, your parent must create his or her own, separate FSA ID. Your parent shouldn’t use your FSA ID, and you shouldn’t create an FSA ID for your parent. If you’re not sure whether you’re a dependent student, visit StudentAid.gov/dependency.

Do I need a new FAFSA ID for each child?

Make sure everyone gets their own FSA ID. Both students and at least one parent need their own FSA IDs to submit the FAFSA. So if you’re submitting the FAFSA for two students in college, you will need at least three FSA IDs — one for you and one for each of your kids.

How long does an FSA ID last?

Your username will never expire; however, your FSA ID password expires every 18 months (unless you change it beforehand).

Why is my FSA ID not working?

If you’re getting this error, it means that either the name, DOB, or SSN from your FSA ID and FAFSA do not match. If you checked and they do match and you’re still getting an error, the owner of the FSA ID can call the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-433-3243 for FSA ID assistance.

How can I recover my FSA ID without email?

If you cannot retrieve your FSA ID online, you still have options to get into your account, but there may be more effort required on your end. You can get your account back by calling the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-433-3243.
